Invisalign

One of the most popular orthodontic treatments over the last few years is the incredibly discreet Invisalign teeth straightening system. Where patients were often against wearing metal fixed braces, Invisalign works to move teeth into position in a very discreet manner.

What are Invisalign aligners?

Invisalign aligners are made from a very thin, clear material, which is made specifically for each patient’s mouth. They fit over the teeth like a very thin mouth guard and once on are very difficult to spot. Many people call Invisalign “invisible braces” because they are so discreet. They make use of the very latest technology and 3D scanners to create custom-made clear aligners. They work on a wide range of orthodontic issues including crooked teeth, gaps and overcrowding.

How do they work?

The aligners are worn for two weeks at a time and there is a sequence of aligners worn one after the other over a two week period. Each set of aligners move the teeth gently towards the desired location during the treatment. They can be removed whilst eating, having a drink and brushing and flossing the teeth.

We would advise patients to wear the aligners for as long as possible each day and we recommend about 22 hours wear for maximum movement and effectiveness of the Invisalign aligners. Treatment time ranges depending on each patients needs, but generally they take about a year to move teeth into the correct location. This is done discreetly and gently.

Innovative technology

Invisalign braces make use of the very latest orthodontic technologies with no metal brackets or wiring involved. During the consultation we do X-rays of the teeth from every angle, this is uploaded onto our Invisalign computer which produces a 3D image of the mouth and teeth. Photographs and the 3D scans, as well and impressions of the teeth are sent to the Invisalign lab in the US, where the custom aligners are made. The aligners are moulded to each patient’s individual mouth and teeth so that they fit perfectly and cause no discomfort.

Why Choose Invisalign?

  • Discreet clear aligners are used
  • No metal is involved so less pain and discomfort
  • They are removable so daily routines such as eating are not affected
  • Oral hygiene is not affected as teeth can be cleaned as normal

When the first set of aligners are fitted we will normally provide at least one more set of aligners to be worn after the two week period. Regular check-ups will be needed to closely follow the progress of the treatments and to provide further aligners.
